210 freshwater tank
I have a 210 I'm setting up. I am thinking of doing a rare and unique puffer for it but I need suggestions. I know a mbu won't fit and I already have a fahaka in my 120 can someone tell me of other large freshwater puffers?
Re: 210 freshwater tank
you could do 70 dwarf puffers.
or 8 gsps
or 14 figure 8s

Re: 210 freshwater tank
As far as freshwater goes, those two are really the two "large" ones. Everything else is middle to small sized that I can think of. Same with brackish. To get a different, but large species, you'd have to look at marine.
A pustulus would be "rare" but 99.9% of them are just fahakas with some spots that eventually fade to stripes.

Yeah I don't want to do marine. I was wondering what would happen with maybe a few different kinds of puffers, any ideas?

I wouldn't combine different species of puffers. They can become very aggressive and very territorial with each other. You can maybe research a fahaka biotope or even do several of the smaller puffers in a heavily planted tank.

Re: 210 freshwater tank
I'm just confused. I was setting this up for rays with ponds to come soon and the more I think about it I'm loosing interest in rays. I love my Fahaka he's a ham. I use to have figure 8s and greens but I don't plan on doing brackish ever again. I was thinking Pustulatus but they seem to much like a Fahaka I'm just not sure if I could do arrowheads and how many or what other options there really are.

Re: 210 freshwater tank
Its a tough call honestly.
If it was me, I'd move the Fahaka to the 210, the 120 is really the bare minimum size tank to keep them in and the fish would LOVE a tank that big.
Then I'd do something funky with the 120.. probably 6 or 7 figure 8's but that's just me
and you said you don't want to go brackish.
The problem with the lurker species is that they well.. lurk most of the time.
That doesn't leave a whole lot of freshwater puffers that have the personality of a fahaka.

That would be hilarious.
"Darwin swings...annnnnnd a miss. Boy Jim, Chuck's suffered at the plate tonight. He's 0 for 3 and I'm not sure he's recovered from that shoulder pull a few weeks ago. I'll bet the front office is re-thinking that contract."

Now that would be a chance to really put those "roman ruins" aquarium decorations to good use! Or a bunch of castles.. each puffer family gets their own widdle castle!
Good lord, that would be a lot of dwarf puffers...
