Do Fahaka puffers need salt??

Post by BakeAT98.6° »

Do Fahaka puffers need brackish or saltwater as they grow or do they remain true freshwater fish?

Thanks!!

So I can do a standard tonic dose if needed (1 heaping TBS per 5G) for injury/nitrite poisoning/ Etc.

It is unlikely that I would since his tank is going to be planted, but just in case he can be dosed with salt?

No more than a tbsp/10g for tonic on FW fish but Melifix works much better.

I prefer melafix as well, but I was always told 1Tbsp per 5G for injury... Thats the recommended dosage advice they give at P-fury

mbus are fresh water as well. other than the reasons stated above you shouldn't use salt, and never use marine salt with any true freshwater puffer

I always use aquarium salt, not Marine salt. I know the difference.

I keep a carton of AP Aquarium salt on hand at all times cause my channel catfish tends to bang himself up once in a while and I put it in to keep his wounds from getting infected.

If your water is clean, there's no reason for wounds to get infected.

I'm personally much more comfortable using clean water, Melafix and Pimafix than anything else.. no one really even knows what is in "aquarium salt" LOL
