Toadfish Puffer
Hi; All, i am new to the forum and i have a question, i just purchased my puff yesterday and i brought his salt up too .1002 and i want to do a 50% water change tomorrow and they were keeping in f/w at the lfs. Do i wait until next week until i add the marine salt again? I mix it in a 5-gallon pail and have a rectrometer and add accordingly.Or do i add more salt? and i am doing the water change because the poor thing was starving and been eating a fair amount and he was beaten up as well. The shipment they were in 10-12-puffs all together so i figure the clean water will help him along with melafix as some of his tail is gone lol I plan to do water changes every 2-days until he heals lol and then 2-times for the week.My parametors are; ammonia-0-nitrate-5and nitrite-0- and ph-7.6 and temp 79-81-as they were kept at the temp at store. sorry 30-gallon tank and well planted and lots of hiding spots and brackish and cycled. thanks in advance bella

Toadfish puffer, do you know the actual species name? Not all puffers are brackish so its best to make sure you know which kind you have.
Look here for species: http://www.thepufferforum.com/PufferPedia
As far as the salinity, you don't want to raise or lower it more than .002 per week or you can kill the biofilter and cause it to recycle. So don't change it again until next week.
Clean water is always good for puffers
and so is Melafix, when they are bitten up. Try to avoid medications, they often don't handle them well..
Check out our library too, tons of info in there (under the "Learn" tab in the header)

How long was the tank set up before you added the puffer?
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

The tank, was set about about a month and the puff is a rare one and he's doing well i just wanted to make sure not to add the salt until next week. And i agree no meds if possible -that is why i would rather go the water change route. Thank-you PP you have answered my question. And his Species i will have to look for again and i will post for you.The species name is-tetraodon erythrotaenia- he is a great little guy very interactive with me-i guess i would be too if i was beat up and hungrey lol he's eating well and looking for more. I am making good use of your site and PP you have some excellant advise. I will be worming him soon and i don't see any signs as yet but they saw to worm right away.So i will be looking for a good wormer as i am in Canada and we use 'Jungle Parasite Clear for external and internal. Thank you all again bella

Have a look at this thread:

At the moment, very little is known about this fish. There's also a bit of info in the pufferpedia, but like I say, not much is known right now.
