Dixon81: Give him some time and he will eat. I know how you feel and its not easy.

One more question. Most of you don't recommend to give a fahaka feeder fish. But how about apple snails and cray fish? isent that the same thing? i mean whit parasites and things....

Completely different actually.

Feeder fish are not most puffer's natural diet, crustaceans are, and therefore not healthy for them (obviously this doesn't apply to the lurkers, who eat fish naturally). But even for the lurkers who would normally eat fish in the wild, there's smarter choices in live feeders than just buying goldies or rosy reds. Livebearers are less fatty, and don't have any dangerous spiky fins that can get caught in a throat like say cichlid fry would have. And of course, quarantining, deworming and breeding your own supply would be the ideal way to go if live feeders were your choice.

As far as parasites, parasites that affect fish are not the same as parasites that affect inverts. So while you could feed a feeder fish to your puffer, and give them parasites, the same parasites could not use a shrimp, cray, snail, etc as a host.. so there would be no parasites living in or on those inverts, and therefore, no nasties to give your puffer. Now, there's a slight chance of transferring something over in the water if the inverts were living with fish, but there's ways to avoid that as well (rinse the live food in a net, or quarantine it as you would a fish, etc). There are exceptions to every rule, but its a heck of a lot safer to go with live inverts vs live feeders, if you choose to feed live foods at all.

Does that make sense?
