Puffing!

Bonzo did it once, scared the life out of me, I thought something was really really wrong, but as soon as I got up to the tank he deflated and wiggled off as if nothing had happened LOL

i saw one of my DP's do it the first day it was in my tank, and i saw another at the LFS puffed up over in the back looking very unhappy about the clown loaches that were inspecting it. my girlfriend also made a lined burfish puff up by accident cuz she pretty much jumped around the corned near its tank trying to show me this gorgeous betta she wanted. she felt so bad afterward and then fell in love with it (and the porc puffer in the tank next to it)

Pookie has never puffed...and i know he gets startled every once in a while cause he splashed around like a freak lol

I saw my Porc. puff twice, the first time I was a bit too excited and I almost broke down my roommate's door trying to wake him up and get him to come see. lol.

my ceylon puffed up the other night after he was unsuccessful in hunting ghost shrimp.

I was so freaked out about it that I moved towards him, and he deflated. It was so neat.

I have seen one of my figure 8's puff up one time. He deflated very quickly and looked like he did it on accident and looked at suprised at me.

Not one of my gsps have puffed.

My porcupine puffer puffed twice.

My dogface has never puffed.

Not long after this thread was started and I had just said Elvis only puffed once, he did it again. Here's a good picture of him puffing for those that haven't see it. He looked like a volley ball, he was huge!

Hi, I am not an expert when it comes to puffer, but puffing reduces lifespan of a puffer according to some article/book that I read ( I will try to find it).
Can anyone confirm this statement?

I'm not sure if that is totally true. Depending on circumstances "yes" it could end their life shortly after puffing. This comes when they puff air and cannot deflate. But if they are doing it just for exercise or fun, it don't hurt them. If they are doing it because of stress, like someone tossing them around in a net just to see them puff then it could possibly shorten their life. It would really depend on alot of things. Elvis has only puffed twice in a year. Both times he did it on his own, no stress involved. I think he just wanted to see what I would do.

Looks like trash to me...
The "fugu blowfish" is actually a green spotted puffer in the picture behind them... pretty sad. (puffers in jars in a game)

Well, those things are quite common in my home country (in any asian country actually).
Fishes are treated badly in pet store (kinda like walmart in US), trapped in a jar for a winning prize.

poor things. i can't even imagine how many die from starvation in that game alone, none the less the few ones that actually make it out of there.
