Annabelle IP's (From Tapeworms to Camallanus worms)

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Yes they can, Gel-Tek is a low dose of 3 very effective IP cures though, so if the IP become resistant to it... well that spells trouble.LilGreenPuffer wrote:Could IPs become resistant to meds?
Hopefully Annabelle will overcome this little problem, how's she doing?

Re: Annabelle IP's (Update) Again? R U Kidding me?
First thing I did when I got home was look for her. She was sitting in the corner of the tank. I started talking to her and she came right out. I got her medicated food ready and she was very eager to eat tonight. I gave her a few more pieces of unmedicated food and she ate all of it. I didn't see any worm tonight but that don't mean it's over. I've learned that lesson already.
Today was the 5th day I treated her with gel-tek. The bottle says 3 days but I wanted to make sure I got it this time so I extended the treatment. She was acting lethagic a few days ago just before she had passed the last 6 inches of worm. I'm taking her appepitate tonight as a good sign that her tummy is feeling better. I'll check her again in the morning to see if there's any worm. Keep your fingers crossed guys! I'm hoping this will be over soon.

"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Re: Annabelle IP's (Update) Again? R U Kidding me?
She ate really well this morning. I noticed a few days ago that the guppies in her tank were doing nose dives into the sand. The next day I noticed Annabelle slamming againist the driftwood. Yesterday I noticed a few white spots on her body. This morning there's more. I'm guessing that her immune system is down and her stress levels are up with the worms and now she's getting ich. I've been watching her close for 3 days now and I'm about 98% sure she's got ich.
I'm raising her temp starting today. I thought she had it last month and it turned out she didn't, now I'm sure she does. This nightmare has to end soon! I just did a 50% water change on her tank and I'm getting ready to fight the next thing that comes up. I'm soaking her food in vitamins, beta glucan and garlic extreme. Something has to go right for my baby.

Checked on Annabelle before I left for work. And darn if I didn't see some worm! GGGRRRRRR! I didn't feed her any meds this morning so tonight I'll continue the gel-tek treament. I was talking to my mother on my way to work about Annabelle. She told me don't give up yet! Although I don't plan to give up on her, I thought it was sweet that my mother was concerned.

Of course she's concerned about her granddaughter.
Annabelle is a strong, strong fish to have made it this far. I think she can make it through anything.

Now that I have the video thing figured out. (I think) Here's a video of Annabelle this morning with more worm.
This time the worm's not skinny, it fat!
Hope the video works.

She's eating well, at least.
She's a lovely little puffer. I really hope she will get these things out of her little belly!

Well, she looks happier. She certainly was eating!
