Moving Puffer Problem
Moving Puffer Problem
I have a big problem my girlfriend and I have split for good and I have my favored puffer "DeepBlue" in her tank. She is telling me she wants her tank by Friday. I am at lost at what to do. I have no choice but to move DeepBlue but I don't have time to cycle a new tank. Does any one have any ideas on what I can do not to lose deepblue?

Re: Moving Puffer Problem
If you can, get some mature filter media and gravel from a healthy tank, this will help to cycle the new tank quickly, also you could try Tetra Safestart which is meant to reduce new tank syndrome. I haven't tried it yet but have heard good reviews for it. Also be prepared to do frequent water changes until the tank settles. Hope his helps, sorry to hear about your break up

Tetra Safestart is for freshwater not marine. You would need instant ocean bio-spira. Or Dr. Tims.

Re: Moving Puffer Problem
Ask her for some of the live rock or sand from Blue's tank. If she doesn't want to give it, offer to buy it. The rock and sand will contain live, active nitrofying bacteria. There are some products you can buy- check the library on cycling tanks. If you know anyone else with a setup, healthy tank, see if they will give/sell live rock or sand. Don't rely on the live rock from the LFS- most of it is not "live " when they sell it- needs to be cycled again before it works. If it is in a tank with fish- then it may be ok (same goes for sand).

What a jerk!
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."
