Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Re: Annabelle IP's (Update) No more worms!
Thanks to everyone for all the encouragement! She ate 3 small pieces of shrimp this morning.
Now she's taking a nap somewhere in the tank. Her tummy was nice and round after eating. She's doing better and better as each day passes.
I'm so glad this whole thing is over!

What a rollercoaster of a thread. I'm glad your fish remembered how to eat. Truly. These little finned beauties. If they only knew.
Good for you! And for her!

The gene pool could use a little chlorine. My aquariums could use a little Stress Coat. Wish I could Stress Coat the entire human race.

Re: Annabelle IP's (Update) No more worms!
Last night Annabelle looked like she had black pooh with clear string stuff. This morning this is what I saw. This is going to be gross so brace yourself. Do you think she still has worms? She's eating good, swimming around & happy. Let me know what you think.

Re: Annabelle IP's (Update) Again? R U Kidding me?
Well, black is a good sign. Can you do another WC & treat the tank again? I'd continue feeding med food, until her poo lools normal. At least it's not worms!
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Re: Annabelle IP's (Update) Again? R U Kidding me?
I just did a 50% water change yesterday. I think I'm going to try feeding her the gel-tek before retreating the tank. I don't want her to stop eating again.
I'll start the treatment tomorrow and see what happens from there.

Well I fed her a dose of gel-tek. She ate it all up! I hope your right crazedpuffer. I'm more worried that she will stop eating again.
And the count down starts again. Day one of worm treatment and four more days to go.

Re: Annabelle IP's and Ich with pictures
My mom had to buy syringes at the local pharmacy one time. The lady at the counter said, "I'm sorry, ma'am, but I need to ask you what you want this for." EVERYONE turned around. (We live in a small town. Everyone's in everyone else's business.) My poor mother had to explain that she wanted to shoot up her squash plants with anti-parasite meds!edmlfc1 wrote:Temp is now up to 85.
And here's a funny story for you. I went to academy to get some worms. I didn't really know any place to get a sryinge other than a dope dealer on a street corner so I stopped by a pharamcy on the way home. I went in and asked the pharamist where I could buy 1 syringe. I got this really dirty look then I was asked what size. I have no clue what size they come in so I said I just need one small enough to shoot up a worm. Then I got a dirtier look. After the look I thought maybe I should explain myself. So I told her it was to shoot up a worm for a sick fish. She gave out a huff, I'm guessing she didn't believe me.
But she got one for me anyway. I asked how much and told her thank you and that I know it sounds crazy but I appericate it. Then I left. I turned on my street to come home and there was cop in the middle of the street. As I passed him he did a u-turn. My first thought: How am I going to explain the syringe if I'm stopped?
At least I have the worms with me maybe he will belive me!
He must had gotten a call, he zoomed past me and kept going. I gave out a sign of relief and pulled into my drive. Glad to be home! I'll probally never go back to that pharmacy. Mostly because I know they will be thinking: There's that crazy lady that tried to make me believe she wanted a syringe for a sick fish!

Now I'm going to try to get Annabelle to eat a worm first. If she goes for it I'll give her another later tonight with prazipro.
And by the way, you really are the queen mother of all puffer mamas. Wow.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Re: Annabelle IP's (Update) Again? R U Kidding me?
She's not acting funny at all. However she is funny haha funny. Anyway she's begging for food, swimming, blowing sand, goes into hunting mode when she see's one of the ghost shrimp that's now living in her tank. Apparently she still can't catch them. When I try to feed her an earthworm she swims away like the worm is going to eat her.
Other than that she's acting pretty normal and back to her old self. The only thing she's not doing (that she did before this all started)
she's not playing give mommy a heart attack when I bury myself in the sand and she can't find me.
I put the gel-tek on her food again this morning then fed it to her. She ate it up. No problem. It says feed twice a day with gel-tek so tonight I'll feed her another small portion. She was mad at me earlier this morning, she wanted more food but I didn't give in. I just told her she would have to wait until I get home.

Re: Annabelle IP's (Update) Again? R U Kidding me?
I would have been scared of worms too, after having that long disgusting thing coming out of my other end.
The not eating doesn't come from the meds, but from the IPs (unless the fish doesn't like the taste of the meds, of course). That's why she still eats, even though you give her meds. If she has IPs again, they haven't managed to make her so ill yet that she doesn't want food. She sounds like she's not ill, or you have started meds soon enough for your puffer to not feel the effects of the IPs yet. But either way you should finish the cure you have started her on. If she is ill, and the cure is stopped before it's finished (if this is a med that is to be given over a certain period of time), the IPs can develop immunity to the meds.
Good luck Annabelle! I am cheering for you! You deserve to be a happy and well puffer now!
