my fahaka "SuBe"

Post by puffin_fahaka »

this is "SuBe" (pron. sue-bee) my family's fahaka puffer...i believe he's around 5-6" and hes a crustacean killin champeen! atm he lives in a 55g w/ a 2" marble algae eater (the only cleaner fast enuf to outrun him!) he'll be moving into a 120g (48x24x24) in a few months, and thats where he'll live out the rest of his days with us....we love our sube.

these are from the day we got him...

Sube is a cutie! What a round belly!

the main reason i bought my fahaka was the care it was under....

god it was sad :( the LFS had him in a 30 breeder with another larger fahaka. (yikes!) we we're originally gonna buy the other fahaka, but he made an about-face and showed us the bite marks out of his head..eww. sube had been attacking the other fahaka non-stop for the tankspace. again, it was sad. i asked the lfs guy what the story was, and this is what he told me:

sube and the other bit up fahaka had been fighting for "dominance" for about a week... a freakin week! (this is two 6" fahakas in a 30B mind you!)

BUT BEFORE THAT....

he said there were 7.... freakin 7! of them in this 36x18" tank! i was DISGUSTED...the deal was sealed! i needed to get this beautiful fish away from these idiots, and at $25 for a 6" fahaka, it wasnt a hard sell. i would have bought the other guy, but tank space (or should i say "floor-space") is limited and im pretty sure he was a goner from stress anywayz....

sube had some ich for a few days after he came home...but that went away w/ proper housing, care, and feeding.

he has more personality than any other fish ive owned. he's a ham. he does crazy things to live crabs. for instance, he pulls off all the right legs, so they can only travel in a circle...

he also has amazing body language...if he recognizes you (or likes something you have on) his stripes turn bright-red with dark brown outlines and he swims up and down with fluttery fins. if he doesnt like you...oh boy. you either get the jet-black stripes, clamped fins, and the cold stare... or mottled yelowy green and spittin water. i love my attack puffer....

I got my Fahaka from Incredipet. It's kinda a funny story because they don't normally carry any puffers deff not a 6" Fahaka. I was just browsing when I spotted him in a small tank on the bottom..I asked the worker what was up with him and she said someone had dropped him off (just an hour before) because they didn't want him anymore they didn't even know what type of puffer he was lol . I gave them $15 and a smile. I think it was fate. We almost didn't go to the store in the first place and I don't think he would have gotten the care he needed from the pet store or someone that doesn't know much about them. We were ment to be :D
