change of plans and a new attempt

Post by side19 »

ok some of you might remember me from a while back with little 8 ball my f8. well sadly after his passing i'll admit i got discouraged for while, and when i was finally ready to try again i couldn't find another f8 for 6 months. so i've made a slight change in plans and hope it goes well. i've switched my brackish tank over to freshwater and cycled it using ammonia. after a week (had jump started it with gravel from my 20 gallon freshwater community tank) the tank is fully cycled (0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 10 ppm nitrates) and now has a single otto as its occupant. i am letting him get used to the tank and then i am planning to add a few DPs in there to be the puffers of the tank. i am also considering putting in a c.irrubesco or two if i can ever find them again (i've read here and many other sources that say Dp's and irrubescos can live together fine) and hope all will go well. i'll keep you all updated as things go. right now the otto seems to be loving his new home (can barely find him half the time though becuase he's so small and keeps hiding upside down in the plants). i'm looking forward to getting a couple DPs in about a week. wish me luck this time around!

Welcome back. :D I'm not sure about mixing the two species, I've never tried it. If it was me, I would only do one species in the tank. If you plan to do both have a divider or another tank ready just in case there's aggression.

haha ooops sorry! I just saw that u were from Manchester and assumed UK! :)
I don't know if they get along with ottos, mine lives alone at the moment (I'm moving hm to a bigger tank and getting him a girlfriend soon!) some people say they will be fine others say they won't, I think it might depend on the individual personality and the environment they live in.
