I saw these guys at the LFS today... they are so unique and so cute!!!! Oh man, I was so tempted to take one home with me!!!! But luckily I don't ever do that (except with bettas...) cause I had no idea what he was! So, I'm thinking A. modestus? or maybe the other one that's similar? I got some pics, but they were from my cell phone, so pretty crappy...
80 gal brackish-3 Green spotted puffers
20 gal planted freshwater- dwarf puffers, south american puffer, ghost shrimps
10 gal planted freshwater-female crowntail bettas, L-187b Thomasi pleco, trilineatus cories
10 gal freshwater divided-crowntail betta, male and female halfmoon dragon bettas
5 gal freshwater-red cherry shrimps
Either A. modestus or A. silus, it looks like to me. We have these at work, and they're going by the common name Avocado puffer, same as at your LFS. A while back there was a thread here on the pufferforum where we discussed distinguishing A. modestus and A. silus, and based on that, I believe they are A. modestus. I just brought one home a week ago.
Yes, the care is pretty much identical.. a very active, colorful freshwater puffer that requires frequent teeth trimming.. similar to SAP's but more aggressive/nippy.
I don't think so I really want to. But there's no way on earth my parents would let me sneak another tank in the house.

I have my 80g, it's cycling. But I might have to dispose of a tank to keep that one (by parent's law). If I can somehow convince them to let me keep it, I was kinda thinking of a figure 8 puffer as well. I haven't decided yet which one though...

You got that right! My A. modestus won't leave me alone when I do stuff in his tank - he constantly runs up and down my fingers and hand, biting me. It's cute now, at 1.5", but at 4" it's going to be a problem.
