Good news for Peek and Boo

Post by Pandora114 »

Next month, My husband will be retrofitting my hood with proper lighting so I can plant their tank and the plants not die a horrible slow agonizing melty death like they did last time!

He looked at the retrofitting kit and said "Yeah this is doable."

So YAY For Peek and Boo! They won't be stuck with the putrid pink decorations for much longer! (those will be going in my daughter's tetra tank, since she loves pink and all)

Haha, awesome! Might want to look into CO2 and all that jazz, and the high-powered lighting easily results in a ton of algae (as I've found out). ^_^

if you take a patch of riccia and let it float at the top of the tank it will soak up all the nitrites in there thus reducing the algae in the planted tank.....
this is FW right?....
i have c02 in my planted tank and the riccia is a new one on me.....i was instructed by a professional planted tank guy this past weekend....so we'll see how good it works.....i'll have to take a snap shot of the tank for you....

Riccia, Java moss, and Java fern are all pretty good at soaking up nutrients. I started making a Riccia wall a while ago, but after the Blue-Green algae hit, there wasn't much left of it. I'd like to try it all again once I get a non-puffer tank going. :)

I'm a big fan of flourish excel as a substitute for CO2 in high-light tanks. I fear CO2 systems, and find that while the excel might not give you pearling plants or anything, it gives the plants the 1-up on the algae they need.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.
