heater warning

just over a week ago i bought a Palembang puffer and i noticed he had a small burn on his side, since iv had him iv noticed he likes to lay on the heater, luckly i use heater gards so i thought i would just warn everyone to use heater gards.

He probably need more hiding place. Do you have caves or pots in the tank? Palmebang loves to hide in caves most of the day same with arrowhead either inside a cave or under the sand.

yes i have caves in, the burn happend in the shop, but i was just saying about heater gaurds as you carnt be to carefull.

Also don't buy cheap ones - you'll regret it, and so will your fish. This past summer I bought some cheap Tetra heaters at Wal-mart, when I was just starting to get back into the hobby, and so far I've had to replace all three with Aqueons.

i use tetra.... i think but there... but they where not to cheap per say, there automatic and i don't have to adjust anything, they work really well and ive never seen a burn on my fish but my shrimp love the thing, but a cheap heater can be a problem

Well yes they still cost a fair chunk of change, but they're cheaper than most other brands...but anyway two of them would never warm their tanks past 78F, and the third one just failed and won't warm the water past 75. And I always got heaters rated higher than required, so it's not that I didn't buy a powerful enough one. I have a small Tetra, though, that you can't even adjust, and it works fine in my little crab tank.

maybe its your area i have a tatra 30 gallon heater in my 55 right now till my check clears the bank, and it has my 55 at almost 80 degress i have the same type in my 10 and its at the same temp

Well who knows, maybe it's just my bad luck. Seems like whatever I buy, if there's a defective one on the shelf, that'll be the one I pick.

yeah i get that time to time, but im more likely to pic fish with issues, like gimpy ( my chocolate Raphael) he got attack during shipping somewhere and has no fins but hes fin once he put on enough weight to stay on his belly he was ok. still hes defective.
