Is there any fish that can cut it with a fahaka?

I keep cichlids and some are quite aggressive and can handle themselves. Could a Fish (such as a Cichlid) share a tank with one?

There is no fish that can safely be guarenteed 100% to survive in a tank with a fahaka. I wouldn't chance it, they grow meaner with age.

Aggressive & predatory are 2 different things. There is a gal here who's 4" fahaka bit an 8" pleco in half. Occasionally, there is a 1% chance you might have a fahaka who allow's tankmates. And then, you never know when even that fish might eat someone.

But for how long??? Like we said, you are welcome to try any fish you please. Heck, you might even wind up with one who allows tankmates like mine.

There are about 1% of the Fahakas that do allow tank mates. Even though, everyone needs their own territory & the tank has to be large enough. I happen to have a 11" fahaka that was moved to a 55g (at 5") with 2 with plecos & a soft-shell turtle. Within 2 days, the whole back rim of the turtle's shell was scalloped, so he got his own tank.

He now lives in a 125g with:
12" Goldspot pleco
6" sailfin pleco
10" Yellow-finned chalcius
2 7" Clown loaches
9" Lancer catfish
5" Rainbow shark
6" Redtail shark
5" Bosmani rainbow
7" Frontosa
8" & 9" Elephant noses (18 years old)
12” Black Ghost Knife

Occasionally there is a fin nipped but all in all, he's a wimp & the Goldspot & Frontosa are always kicking him out of his cave. After living with all these guys for years, my stepdaughter needed somewhere for her large parrot cichlid, since she was moving. I watch them for about an hour, went out that evening & within the 5 hours I was gone, it was dead--tail & eyes missing. Moral of this story: You can never really trust a fahaka!

I don't think it is fair to 'Try' another fish when you now it has a more than 50% of getting ripped apart.

What about mating?
How does this happen in the wild....Just a thought

I read the article in the library about Arrowheads and their mating process. They're lucky they haven't wiped themselves out due to agression. Are Fahaka's that territorial and agressive too?

The scientists who have studied these fish aren't sure how they mate in the wild without killing each other. There is a story in this forum about breeding fahakas. I believe both wound up dead.

I had 2 guppies that multiplied into x-amount of guppies happily living with my fahaka. They have only been together for about 2 months. She dosen't bother them at all. I guess they are too small to put foward the effort. She's about 4" and is now living in a 125 gallon tank. I don't know how long it's going to work with her and the guppies but I figure it will keep her occupied trying to catch them.
