How much Salt to a 5.5 gallon tank?

So I've research and read mostly everything... but still don't understand on how much salt to put in for per gallon....

I only have 1 green spotted puffer and was bought from Wal Mart, a 5.5 gallon tank, and like 6 Snails (2 are in my puffers belly ). Today I might go buy another one because I want two!!!

So my question is, when do I add salt and how much should I add for a 5.5 Gallon fish tank!?!?
