Can I still be in this forum...???

Post by DogglesPuffer »

Hi all,

I hope that I can still be a part of this great forum in spite of the fact that I no longer have a Dog Faced Puffer. Um...my beloved Puffer Doggles died today....it is/was a long story...
Our 300 Gallon (which we took him out of) had a severe outbreak of Clownfish disease and even though he didn't really show any symptoms and was active and 'normal' up until this morning....he was lying on one of the rocks covered in a white filmy thing this evening. I am inconsolable. I didn't even know he was sick..... :( He was one of the first fish we ever got for our 300Gal. Just yesterday he was hanging out on the surface and letting me pet him.....

We lost thousands of dollars in fish with this outbreak...it was sad, sad, sad.

2 Clarkii Clowns
2 Tomato Clowns
1 Skunk Clown
1 Koran Angel
1 Orange Finned Tomini Tang
1 Dory
3 Damsels
and my baby.....Doggles.....

There are only about 5 fish left in the tank...

2 Yellow Tangs
1 Purple Tang
and 2 Sailfin Tangs.....

You guys....I'm so sad! He was too precious....

I am sorry for your loss. Keep and eye on the tangs as they are susceptible to brooklynellosis as well.

The two Clarkii clowns were in quarantine for about two weeks. Obviously not long enough. Sigh. I think they're all going to die and we'll just have to start from scratch and be so much more careful about quarantining everything before it goes into the main tank......omg it was just awful watching those beautiful fish suffer......

Thank you...forgot to post yesterday that for the first time, I was able to pet him and he was spitting water at me and diving down into his tank and swimming in circles and then coming back up for me to pet him again......i'm so sad. :(

It is indeed unfortunate you lost all of those fish. I am truly sorry. Next time quarantine for a MINIMUM of 4 weeks to ensure there is no disease carried into the main system.

Thanks so much for all the advice....it was a hard lesson to learn...but you know, everyone was telling me that he needed a larger tank than the 50 Gal. and so, although I am still devastated...(took a cry a few days ago when I passed by his empty tank) I am going to make sure that I get a huge new tank and prepare it for my new Doggles (not soon....but sometime) Just so that the fish doesn't need to be moved around and isn't an obstruction to anyone....he will be the star of my new tank...... :) RIP Doggles....Mummy misses you... :(

You know....surprisingly....we still have 3 Damsels, 2 Sailfin Tangs, 1 Yellow Tang, 1 Purple Tang and yesterday we discovered our Marine Betta under some rocks (his usual spot).....and we were so thankful that they are all still alive and are doing well.....it's a big comfort....and a happy surprise! :)

Yes if caught early enough. While not a disease commonly carried through tank bred clowns, I still see it's effects through collection of wild caught clownfish. Quarantining is a big deal and when caught that way it can be treated with freshwater dips with formalin. Copper is ineffective at treating this biological nightmare.
