Hey guys, new here and need a little advice...

Hey everybody! I really hate to come to a forum as the new guy and ask a question that has been asked a million times before, but could somebody point me towards a link that has good info on how to setup my new tank for puffers?

So far I just put the tank together (heater, filter, lid, light) and added some gravel, a couple fake plants and a little castle for hiding. I filled it with water and added some stuff to remove the chlorine and such.

I want to use brackish water and get some GSPs or dwarves but I have been getting a lot of conflicting info. I tried to keep a couple puffers before and they both died because I got impatient. I for sure don't want to kill any more fish...

GSP are Brackish and go into full salt water. Dwarf puffers are freshwater need plants in tank, real or fake. Figure 8 are brackish. It all depends on what puffer and tank size it is. SO what tank size is it"?

Start with our Library & Pufferpedia for best all around info on different species & their care. They are both found under the "learn" tab above.

Definitely do as Pufferpunk said, and hit the Library and the Pufferpedia. Look for articles on green spotted puffers, because their care is very similar to the other brackish species, also look for the article on fishless cycling, especially since this is a new tank and you say you're serious about not wanting to lose any more puffers.

To answer the first question, it's a 20 gallon tank. I'll check out the pufferpedia. Thanks guys!

20g narrows it down a lot for a BW puffer.

Tank size determines what kind and how many fish you can have. With brackish fish, you won't be able to keep GSP in there, since their tank requirements are 30 gallons per puffer, though you will be able to keep Figure 8's in there because they require 15 gallons per puffer. All size requirements are in pufferpedia. If you keep it in FW, you could keep about 4-5 DP's in there, preferably a higher count of females, and make sure you have enough plants in there for a broken line of sight.
