Hello from Texas
Hi, I've been looking at this forum for a few months now and decided to join. A couple weeks ago, I got a New Guinea Red Line Tribal Puffer. Yesterday, he/she passed away due to stress and being nipped at in the pet store. So, I'm going to try a Figure Eight Puffer or two. My current tanks are a 55g African Cichlid tank, 5 Betta tanks, 10g Angelfish tank, and a 15g Fancy Goldfish tank
Fish are people too, they just have gills.

That's when you mix sea salt not aquarium salt in your freshwater. You need a hydrometer that starts at 1.000 or 1.001 (can't remember where they start) to check your sg. I know you have a fw tank set up for a puffer and if I remember right it's fully cycled (correct me if I'm wrong). Get a hydrometer and you can raise your sg by .002 per week without killing off your bacteria. Figure 8's require 1.005 sg. You can have it raised within 3 weeks and ready for your puffers.

OK, I'm in Houston. Yeah, I'll set up a BW tank for them, I just need to find some. At 1" a 20g should hold two until they get to about 2" right?Pufferpunk wrote:Brackish water. Be sure to read that article.

Yup, I have a 20g tank thats been up and runing for about a week and a half now. I called Petsmart last night and they said they have hydrometers for $8.99.edmlfc1 wrote:That's when you mix sea salt not aquarium salt in your freshwater. Re: Hello from Texas
You need to test your water and make sure it's cycled before you put another puffer in it. Puffer's are very sensitive to amm., nitrites and high nitrates. Please don't rush the cycle process. Make sure when you get the hydrometer that it starts at 1.001 not 1.012. The first time I purchased one I got the wrong one. Here is some really good reading material.
