newbie wanting a medium fw puffer

Hello. I was wondering if anyone can tell me a nice puffer to go with for at least a 20 gallon if not bigger. I want a medium sized puffer at least 6 or 8 inches. So the green spotted, figure eight, and dwarf's won't do it for me. I was looking at an MBU but I hear they get like a foot and a half which is too big and would take lots more care than a begginer like myself could provide. Any suggestions...?

most puffers you will find that size are lurkers, but have a look in the pufferpedia and see if one strikes your eye.

You could put a single ceylon in a 45, same footprint as a 30, but half again taller, those get to 7-8"

GSPs do get to 6" but a 20g is too small for one. Just to let you know, lurkers hang out & "lurk" a lot. That kind of personality may be appealing to some but not personable enough for others.

Agreed, most puffers that get larger than 3" need 30+ gallon tanks to handle their bioload and physical swimming/turning room.

And if you want freshwater (which eliminates GSP's, Figure 8's and Ceylons) then all you really have to choose from are the lurker species. Which are very cool fish, but yes, they mostly hide all day and just come out to eat.

just get a 30g and a swarm of Dwarf Puffers.

Mine will sit there and watch me watch television... little stalkers.
