Glass surfing - sometimes puffers just do it, no matter how heavily planted and decorated your tank is. Mine all do it especially after lights out, and my tanks are well planted, so my theory is that they're drawn toward light like a lot of fish. But who knows for sure, hard to get inside the mind of a little puffer.

Hmmm that is odd. But I agree, I guess some just do it no matter what. I know you said you have already done it, but have you tried going outside the room and seeing if he carries on doing it again? Now that you have added more stuff it might make a difference when you are not there. Watch him for a while if you can, cause he might not stop as soon as you leave the room. If he still does it I have no idea what to suggest.

my saps do it constantly as well. I added a power head to put even more current than the fluval 404 does and one of them started to explore more but the other two just pace still.

I have thought about putting "backgrounds" on the side as well. I mean how often do I look in from the side? If you don't mind how that would look you could give that a try.

I think it also depends on how often you are in the room with them. When my tank was in the upstairs living room, they always noticed when people were in the room and would either hide or beg (glass surf). When i moved, i moved the tank to my room. Since i spend more time in my room studying or on the computer than i did watching tv in the living room, the fish paid less attention to me, unless i was trying to put a camera up against the tank.

My puffs used to do it ALL the time. I had a catfish in there when he was smaller and the three of them used to look like a syncro team. The catfish would swim in circles and through the bubbles and the two puffers would swim up and down the glass. It was quite a sight! Now they are older and don't really do the swimming up and down the glass too much unless there are a lot of people in the room. The one swims so close to the glass that his upper lip goes up when he goes down against the glass and you can see his little teeth... and on the way up he presses his tummy against it, lol!
