Moving with my green spotted puffer

Hello There! I'm moving two months from now and need to know the best way to transport my green spotted puffer. He is only two inches long now and living in a 15 gallon tank,with a salinity level at 1.020, after I move he will get a bigger tank. Between the 4-5 days he will be out of his tank, what is the best way to transport him? In a bag? a tupperware? How will I make sure he doesn't get stressed, and ammonia doesn't build? I'll be moving by car. I love my little puffer dearly and want to move to be easy for him and would be heart broken if he died. Any advise is much appreciated!

If your journey is going to take 4-5 days, this may not work out for you, but when I moved I placed my pair in a 5 gal pail, dropped an oxy tab in it and dropped a cover on it. I cheated a bit and kept the sand in my tank with just enough water on it to be sure that it wasn't going to loose all its beneficial qualities. Kept my liverock in another pail with water on it, and floated the filters in the pail as well.

I only had a one night layover, and I treated the water with amqul at the stop. put my pump with air stones on it overnight.


Something to look at if you cant get a couple oxy tablets, is a car kit to get a regular plug out. then just run the air pump the whole trip.

Thanks for the replies! I do plan on keeping my GSP in a 5 gallon with a plug-in airstone in the car, and I'm moving the tank with the sand and live rock with just enough water in it to keep the bacteria and rock alive, just as SeeingGreen said. Thanks again!

Hopefully you're going to take the rock out of the tank and transport it in a bucket of water... the glass tank bottom may not hold up to the assorted shear stresses of moving with lots of stuff in it. If you do decide to move the tank with the sand bed intact, put the tank on a plywood support piece before moving it.
