Why? Why? Why? Mbu in 55 G. I tried!

Post by edmlfc1 »

I love my lfs, they listen and they are willing to learn. Well a few days ago I was so excited to see a baby mbu puffer that they had special ordered for someone. The guy that had it ordered never came to pick it up. I had a long talk with the employees about the mbu, in general the size tank it needs what it eats etc. etc. etc. Well they sold the mbu today to someone else. He told me all about it when I went in there. He said he told the people that they needed a huge tank like 500+ gallons min. just for the Mbu. Now I know that's their business and they can't really turn down a sell, it made me proud that they actually took the time to "try" and educate the people that purchased the Mbu. The people that purchased the Mbu are keeping it in a 55 gallon for now. He said that he told them the Mbu grows very quickly and a few months in a 55 might be fine but they will need to upgrade really quick. He said they are under estimating just how fast it will grow. I wish they could have turned down the sell, but then they would probally go out of business and where would I go. :( Anyway I hope these people find the puffer forum or do their homework for the Mbu's sake. I was so glad that they at least tried to educate the person that purchased it. Even though that person didn't care to listen.

Maybe suggest they don't custom order fish like that anymore?

LFS have to custom order but maybe they should ask for deposit money upfront that way they know the individual is serious.

Sometimes no matter how much effort we put into things, people are going to do what they want in the long run. No matter if it is detrimental to the fish or not. It's a sad thing.

Either way I am proud of my lfs for at least informing them about what they really need. That made me feel good to know that my lfs does listen. :D After my tank broke I have to say they have been so good to me. My new tank will be delivered next thursday and the owner is going to come to my home and help me with all the plumbing & the new in sump protein skimmer. Most of the stuff that I purchased for my tank didn't even come from them. It's really good to have an outstanding lfs. :D He also told me that they now have a 300 gallon available. Hmmmm they also have layaway (for as long as you need it). Elvis might get the bigger tank after all. :D
