Puffers and cowfish?

Post by pinkfloydpuffer »

I've heard of people keeping puffers and cowfish together. Would this really work? And I don't know much about sw puffers, but can you keep more than one kind of puffer together? Thanks :)

I don't know about cowfish but yes it is possible to keep two kinds of puffers together. I have a stars and stripes with 2 gsp's. You just have to make sure you tank is large enough for the puffers you want. :D

Might be tough to make sure your cowfish can get to the food before your puffer does, but they shouldn't fight.

I would also be concerned about the little spikes that some cowfish have coming off of their bodies as puffers are notorious nippers. He may want to sample.

puffer takes a nip, cowfish poisons tank.... both die

puffer puffs ... scares cowfish... cowfish poisons tank... both die

cowfish starves because it moves too slowly and can't get to food before greedy puffer gets there....

none of this is a good plan in my opinion..

That's what I figured. :) I've just seen a few people do it, and it seemed a bit strange to me...

PUFFER! :D I've wanted a porky for a long time. Of course, I probably won't end up being able to get the puff for maybe a year or two. I've gotta upgrade my green spotted puffers' tank first. But I love planning ahead! Like my plans to put a figure 8 in my 20g tank that my gsps are in now, the gsps in a new 55, and probably a dwarf in my 5... :D I've tried a few kinds of fish, but none of them ever give me as much satisfaction as puffers. And strangely enough, I have more trouble with the other fish then I do with puffers...

I think people get so wound up thinking puffers are hard to keep, that the reality proves easier than they thought... :-)

Happy planning! :-)
