Great Selection...Poor Advice
My girlfriend has picked up the fish/puffer addiction from me and was excited to bring me to a new LFS near her house. She saw on the store's website that it stocked puffers so she was eager to go and explore around... The store had a very nice stock of puffers; a few stars and stripes, two porcupine, a few Fugu, a few dogfaces....ALL at very good prices! I was impressed by the stock and asked the owner what size tank the porcupine puffer needed (I knew the answer....). the guy stated the porcupine gets pretty large so he would need something pretty large....like a 50g tank!! I said thanks for the information and walked out....
maybe his accounting skills and stock are good, but his knowledge, not so hot.... maybe this is a good opportunity to pick these puffers up at a good price.....
anyone had a similar experience?

The owner was rather nasty and adamant that the puffer only needed 50g for full size but for the sake of the puffer, i probably should have commented that the puffer needs a tank that is 2x that size....

Sounds like a LFS owner. That's why I only buy online...people are too ignorant for me in person.

MMadox- Have you had a lot of DOAs? I am worried about buying a fish online, spending $40 in shipping (overnight i know!) and THEN seeing the fish.. all the while hoping that UPS/Fedex doesnt toss the package around...

Re: Great Selection...Poor Advice
I have placed 4 online orders for fish in the past 6 weeks (for my reef club). I'm very satisfied with the small amounts of DOAs & they even have a 1 week guarantee.

Re: Great Selection...Poor Advice
I have some very reliable (knock on wood!!!) LFS around me so would prefer to inspect the fish and then purchase it.
I also have an issue spending $40 on shipping but that is probably because I am purchasing a few fish whose total may be equal to the shipping cost. I am sure I would have less of an issue if I ordered with a good number of people and thus only spent a few dollars on shipping.
Is anyone on this forum located in South Central PA?

Yeah, I made sure I didn't order until the amount was enough for free shipping.

Lately, I have been ordering from http://www.bluezooaquatics.com. They only have SW products. You need <$190 for free shipping.

Re: Great Selection...Poor Advice
Some GSPs can, but it all depends on your puffer's temperament. My Ceylons nibbled the crap out of my finger leather and Star Polyps, so I haven't tried again with coral.

Bluezoo Rocks! I've been doing a lot of window shopping there lately for my new 180 gallon. I've ruined two keyboards this week from drooling on them...MatthewLaw wrote:WOW quite a store!! thanks for the recommendation!
