alright im pretty sure puffer frenzy has begun right now im trying to sell all the fish in my 120 gallon so that i can get a fahaka ..... he still has a lot of dark color on him and isnt very bright do u think he is just stressed still...but he is eating wonderfully loves those bloodworms....also should i add more salt weekly or everyday

Don't raise the SG more than .002 weekly.

It's so far unknown how and where T. nigroviridis breeds, how the young grow and if they migrate, and due to a lack of scientific inventigations how common they are in brackish waters and at which salinities. It is even unknown if they are truly one species or rather a group of 2, 3 or more.

Statements like "in freshwater when young and move to the sea when growing up" or "adults in freshwater and young in brackish" (as "cited" by ...sigh... Wikipedia) are not substantiated by any reliable studies. We simply do not know what they do in nature.

What is available is a lot of long term experience with keeping them in the aquariums from many people. The consensus (substantiated by thousands of dead GSP) is that they need brackish water. Marine is an option, freshwater apparently not.

So the moral here is, we can't make statements about where GSPs live in the wild, unless the statement is "we cannot be sure where GSPs are found in the wild. As for aquariums, FW when young and BW/SW when adults seems to work out fine."

Oh I know. But I don't really know what career to go into after the course, cause it doesn't necessarily have to be in research, there's other things you could do with it. My other consideration was geology actually. Marine biology is the one with the least career opportunities, but I think it is bottom of the list at the moment anyway. More likely to be oceanography or geology.

With the economy today, be sure you pick something you can make good $$$ at.

I'm working as a geologist. If you are willing to work internationally you should be able to find a good job. Good jobs in research, however, are much less available in marine biology, oceanography and geology alike. Not only will you need the best grades, you'll also need to be lucky (or know the right people).

My uncle is an oceanographer, so that's one person I know. But yeah, don't know exactly which path to go down yet.

I personally would not start a GSP in freshwater even when young. Low brackish when young, gradually increasing to full saltwater as the fish ages.

I guess it depends what the store has them in, but I suppose even then you can drip acclimate them into BW before putting them in the tank.
