Got mbu today

Post by synodontisjack »

hi im new, I got a n mbu today. I know they get huge but i AM going to upgrade from a 180 gallon tank within the next 15 months, i know alot of people plan to upgrade and never do it but i have respect for the animal and want it to be as happy as possible. The reason i can not upgrade sooner is a money issue but due to various factors i will in 15 months have enough to upgrade. I just wanted to know what i should feed it and how i can make it happy in the meantime.

[welcome]

How about a picture? How big is it? I feed my puffers clams, mussels, shrimp and crabs all from the local grocery store. Freeze first then defrost and feed. :D Check out the feeding article in the library that will help you. There is also an article in the library about Mbu's that's really good and written by a member on the forum. :D

How big is the tank he's in now? Please read the article in our Library & the sticky at the top of this forum. Good luck with him.

i dont really have the space for my 2 babys but ive made it me an my partner share a double room they have one each!

spoilt little brats ey!

I would suggest upg to a larger tank before 15moths though in a 180 youll have issues once he gets over 7" the waste the produce is unreal. and overfiltration wont really touch it!

my baby whos about 3" now is in a 6x2 and has been for about 6 weeks she will be going into a 8x 4 within 2 motnhs and the big boy in a 12x4 tank with my big super violet arrow

well its not ideal. I wouldnt usually recomend on getting a Mbu unless you have the tank ready for a adult!

im fortunate to have a 10x4 8x4 + 6x2

there isnt really such a thing as over filtration with these monsters!

I wish you all the bst of luck though

Thanks, im probably going to be looking at doing around 15% water changes per day. He's eating squid, muscles and cockles.
