so I have this congo puffer I got it the 21st
when I got it I put in a number of rosy reds (I know I know...)
I didn't have time to get him trained and thought it would help him acclimate better..
but I'm working on getting him on frozen now..
I've tied some krill on a thin piece of dental floss..
non flavored ofcourse..
and anyways I started fishing it around him...
heck I got it to land on his nose.. in his mouth you name it.. he just doesn't seem interested AT ALL!!!

Ok you could try soaking the food in some garlic, to make it taste better and attract the puffer to it. Or you could do another of two things which are each completely different. You could just keep trying new stuff. You never know, there may be something that he just really loves the taste of. Or you can just buy one thing, and if he doesn't eat, he gets no food. He will learn soon enough that he has to eat it. Just keep going, try using some tongs and waving it around etc etc. I'm sure you've heard all the techniques. It probably won't matter which one you do as he will eat within time, it just sometimes takes a while. I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck!

what about chicken broth?? would that be ok or would the salt me bad..
good thing is I have a TON of fresh minced garlic (thank god for sams ha I also have tons of chicken stock)
yeah I just can't find my chopsticks.. ha
but about the salt would that be bad..
also do you know if beef heart is ok I've never heard it mentioned before..
(in this case it'd be deer heart)

Bought as a leiurus, maybe a turgidus (Tiger), 1x c. irrubesco (Tott(a) aka Houdini) 1x c. salivator (Jack the Ripper), 1x m. cochinchinensis (Hufflepuff - R.I.P.), 2x c. lorteti (Tommy and Tigern = Calvin and Hubbes), 1x m. suvatti (Koseklumpen), 1x m. palembangensis (Dragonfly), 2x t. biocellatus (Koken and Fiken).
I would forget about using krill. None of my FW puffers like it, only my GSP who is BW. Hufflepuff even stayed sulking in a corner for 2 hours after I gave him freeze dried krill. He was so angry with me, that he didn't want to "talk" to me for 2 hours! Tiger exploded with anger when he tasted what it was. So I guess krill isn't quite the think to make a FW puffer start taking dead food. I use a prawn for this (I've never met at puffer who can resist a prawn - they always give in, all though it can take days). Don't feed the puffer anything else. Take the prawn in a thread, and bounce it in front of its nose. This probably won't work, but at least you get its attention. Then put the prawn in the outflow from the filter, and leave it there. The water flow will make the prawn seem alive. Leave the tank, so the puffer don't have to deal with a large human staring at him/her too. Let the prawn stay there for a while. If he/she hasn't touched it, remove it, and wait until next day (not feeding the puffer in the mean time). Then try again. If it doesn't work, wait until next day (still no other feeding). I haven't met a puffer who hasn't given in on this in the end. I think my suvattii has the record, as he wouldn't eat the first week I had him. But that was probably mostly because he doesn't handle changes at all. He always stops eating for a few days if there are some changes in his environment.
I know the first time you have to do this to a puffer, it's the worst time, and probably also one of the times you have to struggle with them the longest. It gets easier with the next puffer, as you know that it will work in the end. It's just feels so terrible to starve them for days...

its not freeze dried its one of those frozen flats of krill..
I do have some silver sides I could try.

well I just made a puffer goody bag.
I put a bout a table spoon of fresh minced garlic in a ziploc threw in about.. 3/4 ziploc bag of krill 6-7 silver sides and I'm gonna let that sit for a bit.. its RATHER pungent it should get his attention I'd hope
I tested the smell factor by tossing a single piece into my rope fish tank..
lets just say they definitely got to it VERY quickly.. infact the whole tank went RIGHT to it..

I guess the reason why only my GSP liked the krill, is that it's not a freshwater species (the krill, I mean). So the FW fishes thought it tasted rather odd. But I haven't tried frozen krill. I just gave up on the krill there and then. But I can imagine that the puffers might think it tastes a bit odd yet, even though it's not freeze dried. But that's just my guess, and not something I know for sure. I use the kind of prawns/shrimps that you buy for human food. Puffers just love it!
Kaisa is not a Spaniel at all, but a breed that's called Kleiner Münsterländer. It's a German breed, actually. You can read a little about it in this thread, where I got the exact same question. She is just a wonderful dog! I love her so much! And she has had a great day today, which you also can read about in that thread (and a little about Norwegian grouses )

its OBVIOUSLY closely related I think.
personally I have brittney spaniels
and not familiar with norwegian grouse

They are actually much closer related to German Wirehaired pointer and Deutsch Kurzhaar (wow, I found two of the English names!) than spaniels. There's another breed that's closely related to those two too, which looks very much like a münsterländer, especially if you see its face. But they are bigger.

My Puffers: 8 years of FW puffer care! currently have 1x mbu Bubba 17" gentle giant... loves a belly tickle. 2x Suvatti Pair 1x Carinotetraodon borneensis
its strange because my baby mbu ate kril for a while. now shes a little bigger she takes chunks out of the block and spits it everywhere for the barbs tetras and fire eel! haha
yeah some one told me to tie it to a sting.. and fish it to the bottom and "attack the puffer with it"
so I jigged it on its nose/mouth a time or two.. .. at about three.. it got fed up and took a chunk out of it..
and I started moving it away it undug itself and went after it biting and ripping it apart..
but it spit it all out..
so where I had a full krill..
I now have.. a krill spread all over my tank in small pieces.. ha
I got excited so much.. and than just let down
atleast I have a technique now.
Now you just need to find a food that he will like. Try something else, as others have said, FW puffers don't seem to like krill, so that's probably what went wrong there. Never mind, that is one step in the right direction.
