hi,
I just bought a new jade puffer fish, he is about 2.5 inches got him in a 14 gallon tall tank with sal about .006-.008 temp about 77 f. i can't seem to find basic info for it. I was just wondering if anyone would share some info as diet, behavior, adult size. Plus he is swimming very rapidly up and down the tank, almost jumping out??????

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks.

Re: jade puffer
One reason for its swimming frantically up and down could be that you have him in too small of a tank (suggested minimum is 40 gallons, if it's actually a Ceylon puffer), another could be that he's just new to the tank and hasn't figured out its dimensions quite yet, and another reason could be that the water quality is stressing him. Also puffers prefer a longer tank, rather than taller, for swimming, and in addition, frankly sometimes puffers just do that sort of thing: one of mine acts like what you describe after I turn out the hood lights at night. I'd raise the temperature to 80F, myself.
You need to get a test kit if you don't already have one; if you have one, test the water and post the results here. Also it'd help to know how long you took to acclimate him into brackish, whether he has tankmates and if so what kind, and how long the tank has been up and how it's decorated, all that. Any other info you can give us is helpful.

Re: jade puffer
Care & feeding is the same as for a green spotted puffer, which we have an article on in our Library. If the 14g is cycled & the puffer is just a small juvie, you have a little time to get it into a larger tank. Please take all the above advice very seriously, if the tank is not cycled.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...
