Best live food to raise for Suvattii

Post by RichGSR »

I'm planning on keeping my Suvattii on a staple diet of frozen foods (krill, mussel, shrimp), but I was wondering about keeping a 10 gal tank and raising "treat" food for him, perhaps ghost shrimp, crayfish, or fish? I was wondering if anyone has done this and what they would recommend as to what kind of live food would be best. Tips on raising and keeping the feeder tank going would be great as well.

Additionally, what vitamin additives would you all recommend?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Marble crays are supposed to be very easy to raise.

Aren't marble crays 3 inches long? Seems a bit large for a 4 inch puffer. Maybe when he's fully mature? I supposed I can feed him juvie ones. This might be worth looking into. Thanks!

They reproduce quickly asexually, so you get a big one, and then feed him the 1-2" babies as they mature.

if u put a 2-3 inch crayfish in there..they will fight it out..i seen it but of course the arrowhead will always win. I was wondering maybe cherry shrimp? or breed your own rosy fish to feed your arrowhead.Ghost shrimp are small. You need to feed a 4 inch arrowhead probably need a few but besure to gut load them.

Hrm this might be the ideal solution as I can use them for "treats" in my cichlid tanks as well!

Breeding a marbled crayfish tank. Seems very easy to do and very low maintenance. Plus with the suvattii and a tank of neotropical cichlids, I can probably keep using these for feeders.
