Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.

1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.

2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.

3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)

4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.

We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.

While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.

Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

UPDATE:

Well, I have mixed things to report on Jungle. First off, I emailed the day I made the above post, and I had an answer next morning. Considering I sent it dang late, I considered said reply to be quite prompt.

They sent me a page on the safety of everything, what precautions need to be taken with the chemicals in it, etc. Pretty detailed, actually... they also sent a thing on setting up an aquarium, some fish care, etc.

However, suspiciously absent was any info on whether or not there was a full 100 mg of prazi in it.
Any information regarding ingredients or their concentration (%) that is
not listed on the package or bottle is considered proprietary
information, to which we do not have access.
Hmm. Considering most medicines have that stuff on the package, I didn't really care for that answer. However, an attempt was made to be accomodating, so hey. Whatever, I guess. Maybe it's because the patent on the tabs is still pending.

So I've been soaking food in the medicine. Gonna do five days worth.... and then..what? start again next week? Be finished? Not sure where to go from there.

I'd be done after 5 days worth...that really ought to take care of it.

So did they tell you how much to use when soaking food or did you just have to wing it?

Either way, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I.....wung.

I'm.... using a measured/estimated/quite certain it's safe amount.

I'm using some funny fractions with 8 oz. of water.

How will I know if 5 days does do it? She's not got worms hanging out of her.... poo-hole or anything (*laughs iummaturely* POO-HOLE!)

I just re-read the thread, and I can't recall what your puffers symptoms are! I assume she/he is eating less or is always skinny - something like that.

Wormers really work pretty well. We use them on dogs, horses (let me tell you how fun it is to get a smart horse to take something orally they hate!), and humans...so I'd do the 5 days and if the fish seems healthy just stop there.

You gotta have a little faith on issues like this, and if a week or two later the symptoms return...then I'd dose again. BUT, I'd really expect the 5 day run to take care of things.

It was more a precautionary thing... I was feeding her snails out of a tank that was camallanus infested, and everything I've read says it spreads from tank to tank very easily, via equipment, etc. My prey tank had looked clear of everything for so long, that I assumed everything was safe - not so.

I've had that tank since the summer. That should've been long enough to see that it was safe, but the camallanus only showed itself a month, to a month and a half ago, and I did nothing because I didn't know what it was.

Anyway, she had been pacing alot, so I thought she was stressed, and assumed she as wormy as well. I didn't want to wait until it was bad enough to have the worms hanging out, anyway.

Thanks for the background. I'd just do 5 days and not worry about it. She may not be infected anyway, and the treatment you're proposing should take care of things.
