they are all different, some never lose their blotchiness, some get beautiful bold stripes young, all you have control of is his diet and the substrate he is over as well as overall health, all three can effect color, other than that time will tell

Mine is a foot long & still doesn't have the colorful maroon striping some other fahakas have, in spite of the awful gravel I picked for him. I was hoping it would bring the maroon out in him. Now I'm stuck with gravel that looks like a kindergardener picked out.

The infamous gravel rears it's head.

Anyways, my fahaka is red striped and blotched all at the same time. Yet, he is still a young one...maybe 7-8 inches.

Anyone who feels the need to comment about my horrid gravel is welcome to help me change it all out of my 125g tank! :P

I will. :D
I would love a trip to Chicago. I will even supply the substrate. Just so I can go out and feast at the delicious restaurants in town.

Heck, I will leave all the kids at home with the husband. It will just be me, the substrate and my appetite.

Here is Kaiser about 2 months ago. As you see he hasn't really colored up a lot.

Aww...that must be what's wrong, why he's so nice, he's got the perpetual blues because of the technicolor gravel.

What's wrong with being nice? I'd hate to have that awful gravel for only one fish. At least his niceness allows an interesting combo of tankmates.

Did you know I have a pair of 18 year old elephant noses in there with him?
