Saw about 5 of these today for the first time, it says in the pufferpedia that you need 40gallons for them, even though they are semi-lurkers? If I was to have 1, would I really need that much room for them? Even if it is over filtered and gets weekly 50% water changes as usual?
Also, what size tank would you need for 2, providing I put in lots of decor to break up the lines and loads of caves?

Yup, you still need that much room. These guys, while not incredibly active, get fairly large at 6-8''. Like with any fish, give them as much space as you can.

okay, that's great, but what size tank would you say for 2? I know you have to be wary about having 2 due to the aggression, but if I got 2 the same size at the same time, I'm hoping it'd be okay, along with lots of broken lines and being well fed

I have had a Palembang in a 40g for about ayear and I find they are more active than most people think. At night she does swim around quite abit. I don't think I would keep two in less than a tank with a 4'x2" preferably 6'x2 foot print. They are gonna need alot of space to not fight each other.

I had one in a 55g tank and was a really fun fish. Would mainly come out at night and eat crayfish. During the day he would hide in the cave i had made for him. But at night oh my he would go all over the tank looking for food and pooping everywhere. he was about 4 inches long. Sadly on my way from north carolina to california my tank that i had set up in the uhaul busted and i had to sell him in tennessee. I would look on craigslist for the biggest tank for your buget. But a really good filter is very important.
