What type of Dwarf Puffer will be suitable for my tank?

Post by FitZ »

Hello,

I am trying to start a new tank. I have a 25 gallon (tall) tank. It is going to be very similar to this one http://www.bcaquaria.com/forum/showthre ... 345&page=4 Does anyone know what types of puffers would be suitable for the tank?

you can put different kind of puffer in that size of tank but puffers would be happier with heavily planted tanks. If you wanna know how many puffer of same species can fit your tank. You can check pufferpedia. It will tell you minium size tank requirement for each puffer.

I wouldn't trust them wth danio's or tetra's, fast moving fish could stress them out.
Also I wouldn't risk a killi either

my serpea tetras do fine with my dwarfs just get a school of them 5 or so. I think in a 25g tank you would want to keep a species only tank with your dwarfs as they are territorial. If you have them in a 50g+ then you would be able to get away with more as there is more area than just their territory. You could probably get away with some form of small algea eater like a siamese algea eater cause they don't have long fins and don't to large for a 25g tank. Honestly you never know with puffers most are aggressive and some are not.

Like apachepufferman said, you never know with puffers, they can be quite aggressive. Even the dwarf one, or should I say especialy the dwarf ones! It's like they know they are small so they act more aggressive to scare off the other fish! So besides otos that have been proven to be compatible there's not really "good" tank mates suggestions for puffers... Dwarf puffers are known fin nippers and can really damage a bigger fish...
