Plants
Plants
I have decided that the plants I would get for my tank would be Wendtii Crypt (maybe dwarf hairgrass), Java Fern and Tape Grass. I have a couple of questions though. Firstly, are these good choices? and secondly, if I was to choose the dwarf hairgrass, how would you trim that? It may sound stupid but I was just wondering how you would "collect" all the bits of grass you cut off so that they didn't all float around in your aquarium.
Re: Plants
Cut it to the hight you want then drag a net over the waters surface to filter off the trimmings
Re: Plants
Ha
I knew it would be simple. Just me being stupid again. I just assumed that the bits of grass would float about. Should have known really that it would all float to the top.
Oh well. Thanks!

Re: Plants
are these for a freshwater tank and this post is just in the wrong forum? or are you trying to plant these in brackish water?
Re: Plants
Yes I shall be planting them in brackish water. I've checked it all out here:

Re: Plants
Well I didn't really get the idea from anywhere, it's just an idea I thought would be nice. But I have read that it is ok to do in this post:
There are literally dozens of common aquarium plants that do perfectly well in brackish water. It's a total myth that there are not, and one that annoys me profoundly. Many species are in fact brackish water plants in the wild, being either found primarily or frequently in brackish water: hairgrass, Bacopa, some of the crypts, Java fern, some of the Crinum spp, etc., etc.
Good luck with it and let me know how it goes!

Re: Plants
Well I haven't got my tank started up yet, infact I don't even have a tank, I'm still in the planning process.
But as soon as I get it I will be using just some play sand maybe mixed in with a bit of something else. I hope the sand will be alright for plants
. Lighting will be low and fertilizers I don't know right now. Well keep the updates coming to let me know how it's coming along (if you get any further, sounds like your mollie is a bit of an attention seeker
)

Re: Plants
Oh dear!
sounds like your grass could take a while to get going with that menacing mollie in there
.I have absolutely no experience with planted tanks (i gave my goldfish live plants once but with about a week it had all been eaten!) so I wouldn't know whether you are doing anything wrong. So unfortunately I can't help you there. Keep going you will get there one day
