How many SAP's?

Post by eliza_faery »

My boyfriend has bought me a SAP a few days ago. She seems fine she's eating the bloodworm and stuff I put in but she has a bit of a problem with glass chasing. She only has one virtical little spot in the tank that she keeps swimming up and down all the time.

I know these fish are wild caught and it might take a while for her to settle down but it's really quite worrying. I've got bits of bog wood in my tank and tried to give her plenty of things to swim around but she's just not interested. Is it because she's lonely?

Part if it is probably because they do really prefer the company of other SAPs. How big is the tank, and how much current does it have? These puffers really like to swim and push through current.

It's only a small tank 70 litres. I have a moderately strong current breaking the water, but she doesn't swim in it. She stays at the back, it's strange.

try braking her line of vision along the glass so she would have to swim more into the tank to get to the other end and when she does she will see all in your tank 8)

I've moved a piece of wood in the exact same area that she would've been swimming, but now she has moved 2 inches to the left and glass chases that little spot. I'm at a complete loss! :(

If she doesn't settle down, consider that it might be the tank size, 3 or preferably 4 foot long tanks are much better to give these guys more swimming room and have space for more than one of them.

Check out this thread. On Sap pacing. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14035

All of my SAPs do the pacing thing no matter how many plants i put on the side of the tank were they pace. I also have a them in a four footer. I think it is just something they do. The teeth thing is a definate clue to it as well (they won't do it as aggresively). Once they settle they will tend to explore the tank but the primary hang out for all 5 SAPs is both ends of my tank and then top to bottom and back they go.

Check out my picks of my tanks. Its the community tank they are in so you can see that it is pretty heavily planted and i have my Fluval 405 putting a good current around the tank.

Also who else is in the tank with the lil guy?

She's the only puffer in the tank. I've got 2 baby angelfish, 2 small bristlenose plecos, 2 danio's, 4 cherry barbs, 1 threadfin rainbow fish, 1 small loach and 2 mini cory's. She's a bit of a larry, do you think she's lonely? Or will she be ok on her own?

That tank is beyond overstocked, you're going to need to buy a much lager tank for the angels and bristlenoses as they grow.

i agree with nick. She may just be goin crazy cause there are so many other fish in there. If you get a 55g that would be a lot better for all the fish in the tank.
