New Puffer Advice

During a recent trip all of my fish we're killed due to negligence of the person I left to tend to it while I way away. It was a low end densely planted brackish tank, which I am now revertinging into a freshwater tank, it's medium sized 120g, and I plan to buy two red eyes, a male and two females, but due to the size of the tank I don't want them singlely, and would like to ask if there may be any fish that would work well with them? I know they get around 3" as adults but maybe some red tailed sharks, ottos, enough cherry shrimp to sustain a population along with snails, it worked well with the f8's I had before due to the amount of plants. I have a 180 gallon canister filter and along with the plants I don't think I could keep up a bioload with just the puffs.

serpae tetras are puffers best friends! for the simple reason the puffer wont get a chance to fin nip there fast fast fast! and beautiful fish

Red eyes can be nasty night stalkers, so I wouldn't put any larger fish or anything not lightning fast. Why not get south American puffers instead of red eyes? They're larger, LOVE big tanks, love being in groups, and are much more tolerant of tankmates. Sustaining a snail population is unlikely, I'd say, might have better luck with the shrimp.

Trimming teeth could be come a pain with a nice amount of SAP's though, but you'll get real good at it really fast.

i would go for the SAP's. I had one with dwarf puffers, shrimp, oto's.....way more potential for variety than with the red eyes
