Geez, I've seen them a few times already. It's not that they come in regularly, but they're frequent enough that I wouldn't call them rare... maybe we've just been lucky over here?

PUFFERS ALL THE WAY.

really? what part of Ontario are you in? I'm in Toronto and haven't seen one of these bad boys yet.

I'd like to know too, as I'm in Ajax but have traveled from Whitby/Oshawa, through Scarborough, out to Mississauga, out to Markham/Richmond Hill area and just about everywhere in between, and have never seen an Abei for sale. I'm curious, as perhaps that fish store carries other types of puffers regularly?

could have been stunted..he was a walmart fish. and he stayed the same size that i bought him. I bought one of those chinese algae eaters as well, back then, and they would fight like crazy.
that was about 8 years ago.

I'm in Ottawa, and I've seen them a few times.

Keep in mind, I've only been in the hobby for about 10 months-ish, so I don't have a lot of knowledge of how popular certain species are. ^_^

Fish Tail Aquariums in Orleans is supposed to have some Abeis in today @ $9.99 each. A fishy friend of mine ordered some, and they're supposed to come in. Look around for puffers named "Mekong Red Bellied Puffers". Often times, these are Abei puffers.

:)

Theres a fish store here in Michigan selling Fahakas for $30, they are about 2 inches. They also have a good size about 8-10 inch one for $130. hes a beauty!
They always order any fish i want, and i was sad to see such a good sized one, when i had just purchased the smaller one about a month ago.
Mines about 4-5 inches now.

I personally prefer getting babies if I can. Then I get to see them grow up into beautiful puffs! ^_^

That, and I don't condone catching adult fish and forcing them to live a life in a jail cell. I love fish, but I feel horrible when I get a wild-caught adult. At least if they're babies, it's no longer a "jail", but it's their home, as they've lived in an aquarium all of their life.

if you have a small tank i would suggest a mekong puffer. its purely freshwater so easy maintance. they are best alone and dont move so much. they are great fish. Otherwise to start figure 8's or possibly a bronze puffer a nice small species
