Look what Elvis did!

Post by edmlfc1 »

I woke up this morning, went to make coffee and walked back into the fish room to see this. I don't know what happened, maybe something spooked him, or maybe he was just practicing. This was the very first time I have ever seen him puff up. He was huge! If I had to guess from top to bottom he was about 10" tall. He looked like a volley ball. Now that he is deflated he looks skinny. :D I tried to get pictures but it looks like some didn't come out that well so here are 3 of the better pictures:

I actually had the camera on my desk after loading pictures from yesterday. :D We took a trip to galveston and toured moody gardens. When I walked in the room I saw this huge thing floating in the tank. I spun around and said ELVIS! WHAT HAPPENED? Then I ran into the living room, grabbed my (crappy) camera and started snapping. My guess is that when I walked back in and turned on the light I must have spooked him. I can honestly say he spooked me too! My heart dropped and my blood went cold for that first second. My first thought was: What the ^%$# is that! Then I realized it was Elvis. Talk about wake you up quick in the morning when you're not expecting it.

They can surprise you once and a while can't they. I have seen Buddy ( Elvis's twin) do it just once. It is funny some will do it all the time and not necessarily when spooked but just for the fun of it or to practice while other hardly ever. I remember Star ( A Reticular) only ever doing it once and she was the size of a beach ball (the boyfriend who had just woken up almost knocked him over with the surprise and he is use to everything, has been in the family business pet trade since he was 14 yrs old) .
Your Elvis is such a cutie.

love the bottom pic were you can just barley see the spines and his open mouth, man when i move to my house and get my large marine tank i really hope i get one of those puffers that likes to puff, it would be so much fun lol not that all puffers arnt but i mean cmon not much is cooler than seeing an inflated puffer specially one that is in your own aquarium, and i dont think i have much chance of my little GSP puffing any time soon, unless my hermit crab attacks him.... lol

My husband was asleep at the time so he only got to see pictures. I watched Elvis all day yesterday to see if he would do it again so that my husband could see him. He never did it. I even went to the tank and told him "puff Elvis puff"! That didn't work. :( My GSP's have never puffed. I have had them for a year now. My husband said Elvis probally puff's all the time when I'm not looking. :D That would be just about right! :? When he started to deflate his belly skin was all wrinkled, with a few shakes it was back to normal. This was truely a sight to see. I don't think I will ever forget it. :D I was totally amazed at how huge he was. After he deflated he looked so small.

Funny you should say that:
The night before after reading that they needed more pictures for potm, I told everyone I was gonna wuppp them this month. I was planning to sit at the tank and get some good shots so that I could enter one. That very next morning "Puff" I wasn't quite ready but it seemed like a good opportunity. :D I sent in picture no. 3. :D It was the only one that came out clear. I know it's going to be a touch competition. But maybe if I tell Elvis he won, he might get excited and puff again. :D
