F8's and puffing
Has anyone ever seen their F8's puff? I never have and I am just wondering if this is something that I will never see.

Re: F8's and puffing
I have one, and he's never puffed (to my knowledge). I've had him since the end of March. I had actually gotten two, but the other one jumped out of the tank within 2 months. Then I got another one that died of IPs within 3 weeks of getting him. None puffed up. Even when my hubby tried to get them to puff by chasing them around the tank with the handle of a flyswatter (what was he thinking?!?
). Don't worry he was punished.

My exes puffed once when I trimmed his teeth. They get very pointy.

Re: F8's and puffing
So in other words it's really not all that common for an F8 to puff unless extremely stressed out?

Re: F8's and puffing
I have 3 F8's.
I've seen one puff twice (different puffers each time)
The first time was when my smallest was in the transportation bag and I'd just got him home. I poured some tank water into the bag and he must've got a fright coz he 'half' puffed.
The second time I just happened to look into my tank and my middle one(aka Kev) was puffed up. Dunno what caused it but as soon as he saw me watching he deflated and swam away to hide... it was if I'd caught him with his pants down or something

Re: F8's and puffing
It would be interesting to see if anyone has ever caught the puffing on camera. I know we had a discussion about GSP's and puffing a couple of months back and there was no photo evidence of that either. (Not suggesting anyone cause the puffing just for a shot) It would just be neat to catch one off guard.

Re: F8's and puffing
I've heard anecdotal reports that they occasionally practice the puffing technique but usually at night with lights off and nobody to watch. Of course, with it being anecdotal it could easily be the case that an unwitting owner came down to the tank late at night when the fish were asleep, turned the light on, and hey presto it puffed out of fright...

Re: F8's and puffing
One of mine has puffed - I came home to him stuck to a powerhead intake all puffed up, lol. I turned it off, he wiggled away and unpuffed, and that was that.

Re: F8's and puffing
I know the last post was years ago but my new F8 (I've had him about four days) was swimming around the tank quite happily, paused for a second took a deep breath, puffed himself up about 2/3rds his body size, deflated and proceeded to continue his tank exploration! He worried me for a second but he seems to be fine! He's going after a snail as I type this.
