fugu with F8's

I was at my lfs today and they have a couple of Fugu puffers for sale for $20 each. I am wondering one would be ok in my brackish tank with 2 F8's, Dragon goby and 3 bbg's. The tank is a 40g breeder with a SG of 1.005. I have an empty 60g diamond tank that I could setup and put the Fugu in there if that would work better. What I am wondering also is does the Fugu require full salt in the future or would it be fine in brackish and if it would get along with the F8's?

Also wondering if an Archerfish would be ok in my 40g breeder with the puffers?

Please help, my gf really wants the puffer and I really want the Archer but just wanna make sure all would be ok before I do something stupid.

2 months now and my archer fish is doing great with one f8 and one gsp. I always keep in mind that puffers are known to turn on there tankmates.

I am thinking what I will do is just upgrade the 40g breeder to the 60g diamond tank. The diamond tank has a fairly large footprint. I am pretty confident in the Archerfish working with my other brackish guys but still not too sure about the fugu, getting mixed info on the net about them. Doesn't seem to be a lot of info on these guys.

Ok after checking through the forums here abit I don't think a fugu is gonna work with the F8's as they seem to be quite aggressive and require cooler water.

Yeah, mixing Fugu with other fish is not a very good idea. From my personal experience and online reading they are known to attack tankmates. About BW/SW, I am not sure actually. There are conflicting opinions about whether they should be raised in BW or SW from what I read online, but the majority of sites I came across so far favored SW condition and that's what I'm planning to do with mine.

The key thing with Takifugu spp is almost certainly not the salinity: there is good lab evidence that many species are very tolerant of a range of salinities, and at least some can adapt to freshwater without measurable harm. It is temperature that is surely much more important. Unless you're keeping your Takifugu ocellatus at less than 18 degrees C, and ideally around 15 C, it's going to be heat stressed eventually. You get the problem that the fish's metabolism goes up, but its oxygen demands cannot be met. Long term, its body can't work properly, and it dies. In other words, it's a subtropical fish and can't be kept in a tropical aquarium. During summer, many aquarists will need to find a way to keep the tank cool, e.g., with a chiller or by siting the tank in a cool basement.

Thanks for the comments guys. I went back to my lfs and told them all I found out about the fugu cause they didn't know too much. I love informing my lfs when needed,plus they are good people and will tak the advice:D

I have learned the hard way as I am sure others have, what can happen when you don't research before you purchase. Sure am happy with the Archer fish though, gorgeous fish IMO:D
