F8 + Red Stripe Goby?

Post by side19 »

would this be an ok match? i went to my lfs today before work (my times got switched and i showed up half and hour early so i went across the street to the lfs till i had to start working) and i saw they had a bunch of these really cool looking gobies (no puffers, i was sad, i didn't get a chance to ask if they were getting more but i'm assuming they will and if not then i can special order them, the store will do that). i know my tank is only a 10 gallon so i figure thats most likely pushing but i as just wondering in general. i might be upgrading to a larger tank once i'm out of the house so i'm just wondering for the future mostly.

ok i think the store actually called it a red line goby, and i can't find it anywhere online. i'm trying to find it and i can't even get a picture of the thing. this is getting very frustrating. i might just go get a picture of the damn thing tomorrow and post it so you all can help me and possibly tell me what it really is. haha

ok i found out tis actually a candy stripe goby. i did alittle research on them adn found out some info on them. they're very peacful, can live in fresh or brackish water, adn only get about 4 inches long. do you think it woudl be ok to put one of these in my 10 gallon tank with a single f8 to be a clean up crew on its own? the GPS's in the tank with them leave the gobies alone and don't show any agression to them so i figure a f8 woudl do the same.

No 1 F8 in a 10 is pushing it as is. And gobies don't act as a clean up crew.

Too much fish for a 10g. A F8 in 15 is better, but as the only fish in the tank. If you want them together, I'd recommend getting a 20g or 25g. I think the F8 would likely turn on the goby in such a small space. Gobies are typically okay with F8 as long as they both have enough room to have their own territories.

Just make sure the goby has enough of a chance at the food. F8s tend to gobble it all up before it has a chance to get to the goby. I just make sure that there's a good current so the food really disperses, and then my gobies have plenty of chances. :D Good luck!

thanks. yeah i plan on upgrading the 10 to a 20 once i get this 46 i'm looking at. i'm going to put all the fish from my 20 into the 46 as a fresh water community tank and then move the F8 into the 20 and use the 10 as a breeder for bettas and other small fish or snails or ghost shrimp or something like that. it might be a while though, i just hope they still have those gobies when i do get the 46. thanks.
