sudden shyness

I recently got a GSP in a 50gallon tank. Temp is around 82 and well balanced healthy diet. When we first got "Hyphy" he was very outgoing and greeted us right away and swam up and down the tank. He swam right up when it was feeding time but all of a sudden he became really shy, and not eating. At least not in front of me. Also he stomach is slightly half black and seems like there are white spots on the bottom of his stomach. He still changes light green color on his head when he sees us but he seems to shy away. I had put in Melafix to insure that he was not sick or anything. Any suggestions?

Is his stomach sunken at all? The easiest way to tell if he's eating is to attach his food to something (if you're feeding shrimp or whatever) with an elastic band. Alternatively, if you're feeding blood worms or some other type of worm, use one of those plastic feeding cones with the suction cup. You'll know if he's eating if the food is gone (assuming there are no tank mates).

My Ceylons were outgoing at first, and then they were very shy for about 2 months or so before they came out all the time. Whenever I go near the tank with the python, though, they run away as fast as they can.

As Pufferpunk said, we need your parameters (such as salt level, ammonia/nitrite/nitrate level, filtration method, etc.) so we can start ruling things out.

Could be ich from stress.
