Quite the contrary in fact, SPS corals have much higher requirements for lighting in order to prevent bleaching. Although you make a valid point on nutrient levels, my intention above was simply to lay it out for billysgirl4e that there are different lighting types and give a rough guide on where she should be looking. And there is at least one post by her stating that she might be interested in soft corals, which rules out FOWLR. The post I made above is far from technical as far as lighting goes, I mean we could have endless debates about photoperiods, reflectors, ballasts, bulb quality etc etc. And lighting in the 20,000K spectrum is just as easy IME to find as that of the 14K so I just thought I'd mention it.cobra1713 wrote:lighting is the least of your worries in a large sps tank
Oh, and I'm not sure where you live cobra1713, but I'm in Australia, one of the hottest continents on the earth. I know all about high tank temperatures. In fact, in many parts of Australia, heaters are optional, chillers are not.
