FW puffers and plants(getting a 60gallon hex tank tomorrow!)

I'm officially going crazy without a puffer around. I had to leave my GSP in Illinois for the time being until I can get an apartment and such here. I don't want to buy a new tank yet because I plan on upgrading to a 55-ish and don't have anywhere I can keep it at the moment. But I think I could talk my aunt into letting me set up a smaller 20gallon planted tank at her house. She loves the look of planted tanks and I've always wanted one too.
I have quite a few LFSs in the area, and I'm sure I could order just about anything (within reason of course), so I'd really like to get one of the harder to find species. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd prefer it to be 100% FW, but I'd consider brackish species. I just picked up the puffer Aqualog, so I'm going to look through that a bit too.

Check your local reef club for plants (odd I know) The plants will all be used to the water near you making it very easy, and they will be cheaper too.
For puffers why not dp's or irrubesco's?

I was thinking of C. Salivator, would a 20gallon planted tank be okay for a pair?

They've also got in a gorgeous Brown Puffer (at least that's what I think it is; T. turgidus), but there's no way I could get a tank set up in time to take him home, plus he'd need a larger tank than I want to get.

Red Eyed puffers usually don't do well with other red eyed puffers. Maybe an A. Modestus or an A. Silus? The Silus is smaller and is interesting for a 20G.

A pair should work in a heavily planted 20g. A turgidus would be fine in a 20g also.

so- me getting a 20gallon tank turned into me getting a 60gallon hex. tank (yay craigslist) assuming I can find a way to pick it up.

I'm not really too fond of hex. tanks, but I think it would be a good choice for an apartment space since it'll take up less space.
I've been eyeing a Fahaka at one of the LFSs, I know a 60gallon would of course be too small for him to live out his life in, but how soon would I need to upgrade, he's about 4-5" now.

But now I'm not sure what I want to do with it. It's definitely going to be planted, even though it'll be tough since it's so tall.
I've been considering Discus. But I don't know if I can say no to a puffer, lol.

A fahaka would most likely need a bigger tank by the time he reached 10 inches, so figure 6 months or so.
