Fun decorations for GSP

I am still cycling my tank but am already wondering what to add to my tank that my puffer would enjoy. I saw a floating log at a pet store and wonder if anyone else has one. Here is what I have in my tank right now.

I have found they enjoy big tall complex things they have to swim all around to get a good look at, tufa rocks are good, as they also buffer PH in a way good for brackish fish. I have a large sunken log decortaion in Shakespeare's tank that my ex bought him when we first got him a 29, he still goes investigating in it periodically.

Floating plants (fake or real) > all

i bought one of those suction cup things, that creates an artificial second level in one corner. Mine seem to like that, specially since its near the sponge filter. after they investigate the top and bottom levels of plants, they ride the bubbles.


Mine also seem to be fairly happy with the fake bonsai tree, but that falls into Nick's comment as its mildly tall, but has many facets to explore

Does a sunken galleon (pirate ship) work well? Y'know with cannon ball holes and masts to explore.

I have a whole whack of rocks in my tank that i can rearange at any time that they get bored. They loved swimming in and out the holes and have made sleeping holes in one of the caves. My Blue Lobster has dug out a couple of extra little caves in the sand too for them to swim through. Its fun to watch em explore too.

What kind of rocks are those? Where did you get them? I think the puffer would love that!

It just lace rock from my LFS that i washed out before putting in the tank. Can get kinda expensive if you dont keep an eye on it though.......

Well, its probaly not really that bad.....but all those rock in my tank was about $90. More than I think I should pay for "just rocks" I guess I will be going out of my mind when I have to get live rock eventually, eh.....

hehe Having had some experience with landscaping, you would be surprised how much moss-rock can cost. I hear the exact same response from aquascaping with LR as I do with landscaping with (lol would it be MR?) 'But...it's just a rock.."

Hehe...maybe we should find a cheap good looking rock to sell for aquariums and call it, "Just Rock" for 50 cents a pound.... I could have chosen a lighter weight rock, but the rocks i found was so good looking (to me anyways), i could not pass it up!

Actually, if any of you have a local mineral/lapidary shop (in NM, that's ONE thing we do have) you can usually find some really nice bulk rocks for a not-bad price. Be sure to look up what type of rock you are interested in though, so you don't end up adding something fizzy to your tank :/

Good idea! Next upgrade I have, I'll have a look at one....unless my upgrade is for a SW...then LR it is.

Its amazing what names rocks, or objects can get after time. I know a bunch of guys who flintknap, make arrowheads and knives from rock...paleo style. They practice on what is known as John Stone. Or more publicly known as porcelain from discarded toilets.

ThatCharmingGirl, have you gotten any new stuff for your aquarium yet? Love to see a shot when you are done scaping it.
