Puffer & lionfish compatibility?

Post by jinnan-tonnyx »

My friend just got a lionfish for her 80 gallon FOWLR tank. She was interested in a toby puffer as well but not sure if it would be safe to have it in with the lionfish. The other inhabitants of the tank are a clownfish and a small black damselfish with a white spot. (I know little about saltwater so sorry for the vague descriptions). What do you guys think, would it be ok to keep a small puffer with a lionfish, or should she just stick with the lion?

Tank sounds quite full to me, the most common lionfish, the volitian, reaches well over a foot and should have a tank that size to himself. He will most likely eat the damsel eventually.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

I kept a toby with a dwarf fuzzy lion--no problems.

I like to go with the rule...don't keep anything in the tank with the lionfish that is smaller than it's open mouth. :)

There's a 240G at my orthadontist. The have some sort of eel with a lionfish with a porc, and it works out fine apparently.

as chin said... nothing smaller than can fit in mouth...

and if you've ever seen a lionfish 'yawn' ... they have surprisingly BIG mouths...

not sure i'd fancy a Voltan with a Toby, but as PP, i've kept dwarfs with tabies, and porcs .... as dwarfs are considerably smaller.
