SAPs?

With all my talk of getting the miurus, my other half (who's never had puffers) has been doing his own research and quite fancies us getting some SAPs too. I see they need a min. of 55 litres - how many d'you think would be comfortable in something like a 135l set-up?

You could probably house 3 in there. Just so you know SAP's teeth grow fast and will require manual trimming.

Regardless of diet? I'd read about the fast-growing plates, but had hoped enough crustaceans would keep that in check without having to resort to trimming.

135 Gallons? or Litres? 135 litrres is about 35 gallons, thats probably only big enough for 1 SAP.

They pretty much need a steady diet of hardshell snails (And of course different snails have different shell densities, also dependant on the kind of water their kept in, snails can have brittle shells). You 'might' have to trim teeth... (i know.. scary!))

Just going on what PufferPedia said - 15 US Gallons (55 litres) for these guys? Do they require more space then?

I'm pleased to hear I might not need to trim the SAPs - I'm more than happy to feed lots of different snails. Are clams, cockles or mussels better or worse than snails for beak wearing?

15 gallons for the first one, and ten for each additional. It's also likely that in bigger tanks, where conditions are very stable, if your nitrates are staying low, it's safe to overstock them slightly, as they are not territorial in nature.

So I'm looking at a max 3 in a 135l/35g, or if I go for the 190l/50g tank I've got my eye on I'll be able to get comfortable 4 in there.
