Puffers and Eels

Post by freakman26 »

Hey All,

This is my first post. I set up a brackish tank a few days ago. Empty thus far (except for a few piece of live rock left over from a new reef- is LR a problem? )Also, I purchased a "Freshwater Moray" for my 250 Peacock Bass Tank. Now, I should of asked first, so my bad. The moray needs brackish water & and I always wanted a few puffers. So long story short, which puffer is right for this situation? It's a 55 and the moray is about 12 inches or so. What SG would be apropriate for the two? I use Red Sea Salt for my reef and Instant Ocean for my SW tank. Which do you guys prefer for puffers?

Help??

I have had puffers and eels before and it did not turn out pretty at all. The puffer nipped the eel almost to death. :(

I have kept a Modestus and Tiretrack together with no problems. I am currently keeping a fahaka with a Fire Eel, and the eel has no bite marks. Search the Pufferpedia for brackish puffers, but it might not be the best choice, seeing the size of the eel. My Fire eel (fw) is 11 inches now.

For the moray at least 1.010, full strength sea water would be better.
I would not keep them together.
While a small moray like yours might be nipped, an adult G. tile (twice the length, almost 10 times the weight) will very likely take out GSP or other brackish puffers adequate for a 55 gallon tank some night.
