4 inch hairy puffer new to me

I had a gsp for 2 years. He recently passed. I was at the pet store that i purchased 2 pea pufferfish in the recent past that are doing real good and hairy was there then. this was 2 months ago . Then i spotted hairy they had him in a 10 gallon tank, he was still there . He is 4 inches. Anyway, when my gsp died after i removed him i cleaned the tank 29 gal that is and so then i pretty much turned it into freshwater. Few days went by with it cycling not knowing what i was gonna put in it, and then i met hairy. He was real immobile iin his 10 gallon tank. Ok so now he is home with me in 29 gal of luxury. I couldnt pass him up when the store owner said he was freshwater puffer. O yes he was a hefty price so i want to make him as happy as he can be. I do have some stuff in there but i want to make him as happy as he can be .food wise, decoration wise. He has been here now for 8 hrs and i put frozen bloodworm cube and he had no interest so i tried krill in the can no interest. so fill me in .THANKS EVERYONE

Congratz on the hairy puffer! you gotta put some pics up! thats an awesome puffer.

well from what i know about these guys they need a cave to rest in, just some kind of decoration or somthing that they can call home and from what ive heard a softer substrate is recomended cus they are a lurker so they spend alot of the time on the substrate to sharper gravel is not so good.

but as far as feeding i would call the LFS tommorow and see how they fed him and do they same to start and then slowly change him to how you want to feed him. cus keeping him on the same food during a tank change will make him more likly to actually eat sooner, otherwise it might take him a few days to eat.

also seeing that he's a lurker idk how much they will hunt for the food so make sure its kind in front of him.

now remember this is all from what ive talked to other people about i dont actually have one but im sure some of the other people will correct me if im wrong but i think you got most of it right,

and if i might ask what the price range was for your puffer? i only ask cus i have been looking for freshwater puffers were i live and havnt found any so i might have to look into getting them shipped if i want any more.

When I get new fish, I usually don't feed them the day that I bring them home. I figure the stress of the travel in a tiny bag, followed by floating in a tank while in a bag, then getting used to a whole new tank and different water conditions is enough to deal with for the first 24 hours.

It's hard to do because I want to make sure that they are okay and everything, but sometimes it helps because then the next day they are hungry and ready to eat.
