Here's another firm favourite... mussels. Not a very common treat... this kind of thing puts a real strain on the filtration of a smaller system like this.
Note that I tend to feed them after lights-out. It's been dark for about an hour here. That's why their colour is a bit washed out, and they are a little black (they always turn a little black when eating anyway - as people who own GSPs will attest to)
This kind of treat (shellfish, shrimp) gets fed about 2x a week.
So then I'm not sure my fish have whitespot then because my F8s have the same tiny white spots as your GSPs and I was told that it is whitespot. Could you help me out on this one?
All puffers have spines.
They are usually not visible, but will erect themselves when puffed up.
In this picture of my GSP; Izabella, you can see the spines as white dots on her body.
When you feed mussels, do you boil them first or just thaw them and plop them in? My figure 8's are too little right now for most foods, and the snails that I have are too big so I wanted something hard for them. I got a bunch of small nuisance snails from the lfs and they just sucked the meat out of them, or most of it. The snails haven't moved but I can still see some meat in them, do you think they're still alive or should I take them out? I got a bag of mussels at the grocery store today and they don't look too big but I didn't know if I should boil them or not.
Here's a pic of them trying to eat a jumbo shrimp, it definitely looks jumbo compared to them!
Freeze the mussels for a couple of days to kill of any bad bugs, thaw and serve. No cooking required. Soaking in vitamins is optional and recommended by many, opposed by others.
